OWT creative was founded in 2010 in Manchester, England. When three of my graduating class and myself found ourselves in the midst of an economic recession and the job market at a low we realised that we'd have to make our own careers.
We created OWT Issue 1: Beginnings in an effort to make something that didn't exist at the time, a DIY zine with a refined aesthetic. As the first issue gained interest we plotted to create 12 issues in total, one each month for a year.
As we grew and started requesting contributions to our fledgling publication we found our first stockists in the UK, as well as regular purchasers in the US, Japan and Australia.
Our final foray as OWT zine was Issue 13: Reprocess, created in collaboration with Manchester Art School, was a fully risographed print run. We changed inks and shuffled our page order to create 150 zines, each similar but different to the last.
As we wound down on producing the zines we held several exhibitions as well as the informal talks series, OWT Discourse: featuring Malcolm Garret, Craig Oldham, David Bailey, Alec Dudson and Alex Zamora.
